Guidance Notes and Timeline for Seniors

Class of 2022

 


August and September

  • Watch/Listen for Announcements on PA, the school website and Woodlan Daily News for important information.
  • Meet with Mrs. Nunley to check your credits and discuss post-secondary and career plans.  You must have the 40 required credits by the end of 2nd semester completed to participate in graduation.
  • Register for the SAT or ACT if you have not taken either one yet or are not happy with your scores from junior year. See guidance for information on registering.  If you receive free or reduced lunch you are eligible for a fee waiver.  You must get the fee waiver from Mrs. Nunley before registering. Please register online at:  www.sat.org/register for the SAT Reasoning test without essay ($55.00) and the SAT Reasoning Test with essay ($69.50).  For the ACT test students must register at www.act.org for the ACT without writing ($60.00) and the ACT with writing ($85.00). Check with the college you are applying to for their policies on the SAT and ACT writing!

      ***Must include the school code on your registration for Woodlan to receive scores so they appear on your transcript!!

            College entrance exam scores are a critical part of the college admission process.  However, IVY TECH and other technical colleges usually do NOT require the SAT or ACT.

 

  • This year colleges and military recruiters will be visiting Woodlan in person. College Admissions Counselors will meet with students during SUCCESS and military recruiters will meet with students during lunch. Students will sign up to speak with the College Admissions Counselors with their English 12 teacher or in the Guidance Office. A list of Colleges and military recruiters scheduled to visit Woodlan can be found on the Woodlan Guidance website or on Canvas.
  • Register on Parchment to have your transcript sent to the colleges in which you are going to apply – www.parchment.com.Many colleges will only accept transcripts sent through parchment.Many schools are now using the Common Application. If you need a transcript for an application, you must request the transcript through Parchment.
  • Start a resume of a list of school activities, community service activities, work experience and internship/externship experiences.You will need this to complete scholarship applications and to give to someone who will write a letter of recommendation for you.
  • Start your Scholarship search.Check the “Scholarship Wall” outside of guidance and the financial aid web page for the college you plan to attend.The scholarship listing is also posted on the Woodlan Guidance website and canvas. Hard copies of the list are available in the Guidance office and in English 12 classrooms.
  • If you are planning to play Division 1 or 2 NCAA sports, apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse at www.eligibilitycenter.org. See Mrs. Nunley or your coach if you have questions. Include the NCAA Clearinghouse as one of your schools to send your SAT and ACT scores to.Use the code 9999. If you are planning to play NAIA sports, you need to register at https://play.mynaia.org.Include the NAIA Clearinghouse as one of your schools to send your SAT and ACT scores to. Use the code 9876.
  • Order your cap, gown and graduation announcements!!! An Informational Meeting will be held on September 27 during SUCCESS. Orders are due by October 5th and can be paid online at www.jostens.com or at lunch to the Jostens representative on October 5th.

     

    October

  • Make plans to visit the college campuses on your list. College visit forms are available in the Guidance Office.  The college visit policy is printed in the student handbook, pg. 19.
  •  

  • Begin working on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).This form must be completed for you to receive any type of financial aid including scholarships, student loans, and grants.You will need your parents 2020 tax information to complete this form online.The application opens online on October 1, 2021 and must be completed by April 15, 2022 to receive state aid.The FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.REMINDER:THIS IS A FREE FORM!IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO PAY MONEY TO FILE THIS FORM, YOU ARE NOT ON THE CORRECT WEBSITE!
  • Work on completing applications and submitting them by November 1st.  Many colleges are going to “test optional” admission and are also accepting SAT and/or ACT scores after applications have been submitted.
  • If you have not taken the SAT or ACT, refer to dates and deadlines listed above. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!! Check with Mrs. Nunley or your school of choice to confirm the school’s requirements for testing.
  • Continue to stop by the guidance office or check the school website and Canvas for the latest scholarship listing.  It is your responsibility to apply for scholarships and plan financially to pay for college.
  • Males will need to register with the Selective Service upon turning 18 years old.  This can be done while you are completing the FAFSA or at www.sss.gov

 

November

  • Complete college applications!!
  • Continue to check the scholarship listing
  • Continue to work on your FAFSA if you have not completed it.

 

     December

  • Scholarships, scholarships, scholarships. Complete as many as you can over Christmas vacation.  Check out the Community Foundation of Fort Wayne, www.cfgfw.org for the list of local scholarships that you might be eligible for.  A complete list and application will be available soon.
  • December graduates should make sure that they have the necessary credits for graduation and will need to meet with Mrs. Nunley to complete a senior exit survey.

 

January

  • Continue to work on your FAFSA form online.  It must be received by April 15, 2022.  Without submitting this form, you will not be eligible for state or federal grant money or loans (including your 21st Century Scholars Scholarship).  You must file online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Keep a copy for your records.
  • Continue to check for scholarships.

 

February

  • Complete your FAFSA if you have not finished it.  Remember that you and a parent must have a pin number to sign electronically.  It must be submitted by April 15, 2022.  Keep a copy for your records.
  • Continue to check for scholarships.
  • Colleges should be sending you letters of acceptance.

 

March

  • Local scholarships will be due.  Listen to announcements, check in the Guidance Office,  the Woodlan Guidance website, and Canvas for due dates.
  • Mrs. Wagner will meet with students in AP courses to discuss the upcoming exams in May.
  • Make sure that you are staying the course with your grades. Do not let Senioritis get the best of you!

 

April

  • Submit your FAFSA by April 15, 2022 if you have not done so already.
  • Make your final college choice by April 30.  Make colleges aware of your choice.

 

May

  • AP exams will be given during the first two weeks of May.  A schedule will be given to you.
  • Relax!!!  Enjoy your last month of school but keep your grades up. 

 

June

  • Attend Graduation Practice on June 2nd at 10:00am at the Memorial Coliseum.
  • Graduation will take place on June 3rd at 7:00pm at the Memorial Coliseum.
